As you may be aware, there is a new kid in town .AU domains.
From March 2022, anyone with a local connection to Australia will be able to register a .au domain name. This goes along with the current domain names like .com.au .net.au .org.au etc.
This creates a potential cybersecuirty issue for unsuspecting email recipients. Lets say you received an email from hello@accountica.au (instead of hello@accountica.com.au) It would be very easy to miss the .com and assume it is from us.
Opportunistic cybercriminals may be purchasing these domains to use for phishing emails and other cyber attacks.
The Australian Cyber Security Centre is recommending all businesses to register their equivalent .au domain name prior to 20 September 2022. Beyond this date, anyone will be able to purchase this domain name.
You can reserve your domain name by visiting an auDA accredited registrar here.
